What inspires us??

Our company’s design philosophy comes from the work of golf course architects who practiced from the early

1900’s to the beginning of WW2, many of the courses that were designed and built in this period have stood

the test of time and are still hosting major championships to this day.

These architects all had specific principles which they believed defined good golf, having studied

several of their courses and writings the following three factors are the foundation for

what creates great golf architecture.

Natural

The architects of the time period realised that building features such as bunkers, greens and mounds that blended with the property served the landscape properly. Notable architect of the time Tom Simpson was an expert at placing bunkers into existing land forms and creating beautiful edge details which enhanced the overall aesthetics of his courses.

Strategy

H.S. Colt was the greatest known exponent of golf strategy, Colt routed and designed many courses to extract the most advantageous layout possible from the property given. His clever placement of bunkers on holes offered multiple playing angles which afforded all levels of player options on how to play the golf hole.

Detail

Many of these great golf courses took substantial time to be built, partly due to the construction resources but more importantly the design features were not rushed. When Dr. Alistair MacKenzie designed Augusta National with Robert ‘Bobby’ Tyre Jones they both spent considerable time ON-SITE refining the details to create an timeless masterpiece.

Applying these principles with the experience gained working alongside some of the best contemporary

architects we have developed a proven process for successful projects.
